Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a multi-cultural Hindu festival of India. This festival is celebrated on the next day after the Shardiya Navratras that is the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. According to astrology, on this day there is an auspicious muhurta named Vijay at the time of the rise of Venus, so this period is beneficial to start any work. That’s why it is called Vijayadashami.
The festival is backed by two beliefs: One is that on this day, Lord Rama killed the demon King Ravana, and the other is that Goddess Durga killed demon Mahishasura and emerged victorious after a battle that lasted nine nights and ten days. Shri Rama is an ideal for all and is worshiped as a symbol of dignity, while Maa Durga is worshipped as a symbol of shakti, power. It is a festival of power worship, celebrating joy, gaiety, valour and victory.
