Karwa Chauth is celebrated as a symbol of women’s willpower as they observe a fast for their husbands’ long life, and to express love and trust among themselves, by connecting with nature.
The earthen pot is called Karwa and ‘Chauth’ means the ‘fourth day’ of Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month.
Fasting and sighting the moon are the two main aspects of Karwa Chauth. On this day, after having their first meal early morning, married women do not eat food or drink water for the rest of the day until they see the moon at night.
