Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Temple, Tamil Nadu

Legend says that Goddess Kamakshi manifested herself in her raudra form at Kanchipuram and Adi Shankaracharya pacified her anger with Sri Chakra. It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya attained enlightenment after the establishment of Sri Chakra. Kanchipuram was once known as the city of a thousand temples. In the 14th century, it was reduced to 200 after invasions. The city was built by the Pallavas and Cholas. Between the 14th and 17th centuries, the Vijayanagara rulers renovated and ruled this temple.

The city of Kanchi is divided into two parts: Siva Kanchi on the north where the Ekambareshwar and Kailasanathar temples are located and Vishnu Kanchi on the southern side which includes the Varadaraja Perumal temple.
The main deity "Kamakshi" is seated in Padmasana, a traditional yogic posture resembling a lotus, symbolizing peace and prosperity. The goddess holds a sugarcane bow in her left lower arm and a lotus in her right lower arm with a parrot. The goddess also has a divine spiritual chakra called Angusa, an ankush (goat) in the upper two arms. And a Chandraparai is situated near her forehead.
In Kanchi, Goddess Kamakshi is the consort of Shiva. The name Kamakshi is often interpreted as one with loving eyes. In Kamakshi, the letter 'Ka' stands for Saraswati and 'Ma' stands for Lakshmi and Akshi means eyes. Hence Kamakshi is an incarnation of Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati.
